New eMAR Functionality for Medication Left Out

Norfolk First Response is a reablement service, and as a person starts to regain their independence, it is not unusual for us to need to leave a dose of medication out for the person to take independently between support worker visits. CQC require us to be able to evidence all administration of medication on a MAR or eMAR chart, this includes any medication where it has been assessed as safe to leave out for the person to take later in the day, in order for a full audit of a MAR chart to be completed. If we are not able to do this, this would be classed as not safe or compliant by CQC.

At this time, the system does not allow alert support workers on their mobiles to the following on the eMAR:

1 - an instruction to leave a dose of medication out

2 - an instruction to the next carer to check medication has been taken

We need to ensure that we can record this using the eMAR and not solely rely on the Daily Log or Feedback to record this. Not being able to accurately record that we are leaving medication out to be taken later poses a significant risk to all our services and a solution is required.

Customer Challenge

In the current eMAR functionality, we can only sign medication as Completed or Not Completed. If this were a paper MAR chart, we could mark the MAR as "A" for left available. We cannot do this currently, and can only use "Not Completed" and then "Other" and leave notes. This is not sufficient to show that the medication was left available but there is no appropriate category for this in the system. Additionally, if medication is being left out overnight, our workers cannot view the previous day's eMAR to see that the medication was left available and then check this. Can functionality be created to allow this to occur? Are there other services who operate in this way? If so, how are they overcoming this concern?

    Hello,

We understand the request, and we will open this idea up for voting to understand the priority.
